3rd Place at the National Small College Regionals

They lost to Cal Maritime, 18 - 3, and then defeated University of Texas - Dallas, 33 - 11.

“…honestly I think we can make the final 4, or anyone
who comes out of our PNW division…Cal Maritime lost in the DII Elite
8 last year to the eventual winner by a score that all things being
equal would have put them in the top 3 and this year they drop
down…and we play them…..we played in torrential rain and
20+mph winds, lightening stalled the game before us for 90
minutes…in the first half we missed 3 shots at goal and 3 tries
called back..not 5 in a lineout, a knock-on at the goal line and an ‘I
didn’t see it’ for a 5 meter scrum we lost against the head..they are
huge and well drilled, stole most of our lineout and won all of
theirs, stole easily half the scrums on our put in and wheeled the
ones they didn’t steal and still only put 3 tries across..I hate them
for their NorCal chiseled features and adonis physiques but we smacked
the … out of them just like we do up here in the PNRFU…they
scored the 3 tries and a penalty but had no other opportunities…in a
nut shell we could have won, but then again what game have any of us
played that we ‘could have won’ but didnt’…we return 11 starters, 9
of them under-classmen, so the future is bright…”

Jeff has had a long history with rugby starting as a player at Western Washington University in 1969, being selected for the US National Rugby Team (Eagles) from 1977-79, managing the USA Eagles from 1984-87, then selected as the first USA World Cup Manager in 1987. Jeff was an original founder of the USA Team America and also managed this group of previous national US players at several venues. He has served on the USA Rugby Board of Directors for three years and during that time was honored with the Craig Sweney Award in 1984 for his dedication and service to the game of rugby.

Founded in 1975, USA Rugby is an official member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Rugby Board (IRB).

The organization has approximately 90,000 members and is responsible for the development of the boys, girls, high school, collegiate and club rugby programs, and ultimately all of the national teams representing the U.S. in international competitions.

The current structure of USA Rugby comprises seven Territorial Unions (TU) and 34 Local Area Unions (LAU) that compete for regional and National Championships.

USA Rugby’s national headquarters is located in Boulder, Colo., and is run by full-time staff under the direction of current CEO and President of Rugby Operations Nigel Melville.
